Windows Hyper-V in Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 10 Gold, 1511, 1607, and 1703, and Windows Server 2016 allows a remote code execution vulnerability when it fails to properly validate input from a privileged user on a guest operating system, aka "Windows Hyper-V Remote Code Execution Vulnerability".
The bug was discovered 08/08/2017. The weakness was disclosed 08/08/2017 with Tencent as KB4034674 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-8664 since 05/03/2017. The exploitability is told to be difficult. A remote code execution vulnerability exists when Windows Hyper-V on a host server fails to properly validate input from an authenticated user on a guest operating system. To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker could run a specially crafted application on a guest operating system that could cause the Hyper-V host operating system to execute arbitrary code.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 102264 (KB4034658: Windows 10 Version 1607 and Windows Server 2016 August 2017 Cumulative Update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91405 (Microsoft Windows Security Update August 2017).
Applying the patch KB4034674 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at catalog.update.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
