A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in OpenJPEG up to 2.1.x (Image Processing Software). Affected is the function bmp24toimage of the file convertbmp.c of the component BMP File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. Integer overflow vulnerability in the bmp24toimage function in convertbmp.c in OpenJPEG before 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via a crafted bmp file.
The bug was discovered 08/30/2017. The weakness was released 08/30/2017 by Ke Liu with Tencent (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-10507 since 08/30/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
