A vulnerability was found in Wireshark up to 2.0.14/2.2.8/2.4.0 (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the file epan/dissectors/packet-msdp.c of the component SDP Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. In Wireshark 2.4.0, 2.2.0 to 2.2.8, and 2.0.0 to 2.0.14, the MSDP dissector could go into an infinite loop. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-msdp.c by adding length validation.
The bug was discovered 08/29/2017. The weakness was disclosed 08/30/2017 as Bug 13933 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-13767 since 08/30/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
