An Uncontrolled Search Path Element issue was discovered in Advantech WebAccess versions prior to V8.2_20170817. A maliciously crafted dll file placed earlier in the search path may allow an attacker to execute code within the context of the application.

The bug was discovered 08/29/2017. The weakness was presented 08/30/2017 with Tenable Network Security (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-12717 since 08/09/2017. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1574 for this issue.
