Soplanning up to 1.32 ICAL Link Brute Force information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Soplanning up to 1.32. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component ICAL Link. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Brute Force). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Soplanning 1.32 and earlier generates static links for sharing ICAL calendars with embedded login information, which allows remote attackers to obtain a calendar owner's password via a brute-force attack on the embedded password hash.

The bug was discovered 07/11/2015. The weakness was disclosed 08/31/2017 by Dau and Huy-Ngoc as EDB-ID 37604 as not defined exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared at exploit-db.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-8675 since 11/07/2014. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by Huy-Ngoc DAU and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 782 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (37604) and SecurityFocus (BID 75726†). The entries VDB-106038 and VDB-106039 are pretty similar. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
