Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Soplanning up to 1.32. Affected is the function file_get_contents. The manipulation of the argument path with the input value .. leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in the file_get_contents function in SOPlanning 1.32 and earlier allows remote attackers to determine the existence of arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in a URL path parameter.
The bug was discovered 07/11/2015. The weakness was presented 08/31/2017 by Dau and Huy-Ngoc as EDB-ID 37604 as not defined exploit (Exploit-DB). The advisory is available at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-8676 since 11/07/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed by Huy-Ngoc DAU and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 782 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
