Details
A vulnerability was found in ImageMagick 7.0.7-0 Q16 (Image Processing Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function ReadPSImage of the file coders/ps.c. The manipulation as part of a Header leads to a resource management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-399. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In coders/ps.c in ImageMagick 7.0.7-0 Q16, a DoS in ReadPSImage() due to lack of an EOF (End of File) check might cause huge CPU consumption. When a crafted PSD file, which claims a large "extent" field in the header but does not contain sufficient backing data, is provided, the loop over "length" would consume huge CPU resources, since there is no EOF check inside the loop.
The bug was discovered 08/31/2017. The weakness was presented 09/07/2017 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-14172 since 09/07/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
