Details
A vulnerability was found in Xen up to 4.9.x (Virtualization Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component C Xenstore Daemon. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
A domain cleanup issue was discovered in the C xenstore daemon (aka cxenstored) in Xen through 4.9.x. When shutting down a VM with a stubdomain, a race in cxenstored may cause a double-free. The xenstored daemon may crash, resulting in a DoS of any parts of the system relying on it (including domain creation / destruction, ballooning, device changes, etc.).
The bug was discovered 09/12/2017. The weakness was published 09/12/2017 as XSA-233 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at xenbits.xen.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-14317 since 09/12/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
