A vulnerability was found in Apache Brooklyn up to 0.9.x. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component REST Server. In Apache Brooklyn before 0.10.0, the REST server is vulnerable to cross-site request forgery (CSRF), which could permit a malicious web site to produce a link which, if clicked whilst a user is logged in to Brooklyn, would cause the server to execute the attacker's commands as the user. There is known to be a proof-of-concept exploit using this vulnerability.

The bug was discovered 02/15/2017. The weakness was presented 09/13/2017 by Toshitsugu Yoneyama with Mitsui Bussan Secure Directions, Inc. (Website). The advisory is available at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-8737 since 10/18/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 210 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.

Upgrading to version 0.10.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
