A vulnerability has been found in FFmpeg up to 2.0 (Multimedia Processing Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function avi_read_packet of the file libavformat/avidec.c. The impact remains unknown.
The weakness was presented 10/10/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as avi: directly resync on DV in AVI read failure as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.videolan.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.libav.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
