Details
A vulnerability was found in tcpdump up to 4.7.3 (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function ah_print of the file print-wb.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
print-wb.c in tcpdump before 4.7.4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault and process crash).
The bug was discovered 04/16/2015. The weakness was disclosed 09/28/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.opensuse.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-3138 since 04/09/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
