Apple iOS up to 7.0.2 Passcode access control

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Apple iOS up to 7.0.2 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Passcode Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-264. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Passcode Lock in Apple iOS before 7.0.3 on iPhone devices allows physically proximate attackers to bypass the passcode-failure disabled state by leveraging certain incorrect visibility of the passcode-entry view after use of the Phone app.

The weakness was shared 10/22/2013 by Tomer and Mor as APPLE-SA-2013-10-22-1 as confirmed mailinglist post (Apple Security Mailinglist). The advisory is available at lists.apple.com. The mailinglist post contains:

When returning to the passcode lock from the Phone app, the passcode entry view is sometimes visible when it should not be, and so may be accessed even if the iPhone has been disabled due to many incorrect passcode attempts. This issue was addressed by updating the visibility of the passcode entry view on state changes.
This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-5162 since 08/15/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
