The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The bug was discovered 09/21/2016. The weakness was disclosed 10/31/2017 by Meder Kydyraliev with Zero Day Initiative as HT208221 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-4736 since 05/11/2016. The attack needs to be approached locally. A authentication is necessary for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The advisory points out:

Upgrading to version 10.13.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
