A vulnerability was found in Apple macOS up to 10.13.1 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Quick Look. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-7132 since 03/17/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370625 (Apple macOS High Sierra 10.13.1, Security Update 2017-001 Sierra, and Security Update 2017-004 El Capitan Not Installed).
Upgrading to version 10.13.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
