Power Management in Apple Mac OS X before 10.9 does not properly handle the interaction between locking and power assertions, which allows physically proximate attackers to obtain sensitive information by reading a screen that should have transitioned into the locked state.

A locking issue existed in power assertion management. The issue was addressed through improved lock handling.This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-5186 since 08/15/2013. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
