Buffer overflow in the exitcode_proc_write function in arch/um/kernel/exitcode.c in the Linux kernel before 3.12 allows local users to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact by leveraging root privileges for a write operation.

The weakness was published 10/30/2013 by Fabian Yamaguchi and Nico Golde as some unstracked linux kernel security fixes as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is available at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-4512 since 06/12/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
