A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Google Android up to 8.1 (Smartphone Operating System). This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Media Framework. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 01/05/2018. The weakness was released 01/02/2018 with Trend Micro as Android Security Bulletin - January 2018 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at source.android.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-13193 since 08/23/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
