A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Google Chrome 30.0.1599.101 (Web Browser). This affects some unknown functionality of the file net/socket/ssl_client_socket_nss.cc of the component TLS Renegotiation Certificate Validation Handler. net/socket/ssl_client_socket_nss.cc in the TLS implementation in Google Chrome before 31.0.1650.48 does not ensure that a server s X.509 certificate is the same during renegotiation as it was before renegotiation, which might allow remote web servers to interfere with trust relationships by renegotiating a session.

The weakness was released 10/19/2013 by Antoine Delignat-Lavaud and Karthikeyan Bhargavan with Prosecco as 306959 (Website). The advisory is shared at code.google.com. The public release was coordinated with Google. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-6628 since 11/05/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
