A vulnerability has been found in libpam4j 1.8 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function pam_acct_mgmt of the component Disabled Account Handler. It was found that libpam4j up to and including 1.8 did not properly validate user accounts when authenticating. A user with a valid password for a disabled account would be able to bypass security restrictions and possibly access sensitive information.
The bug was discovered 10/17/2017. The weakness was shared 01/18/2018 as Bug 1503103 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-12197 since 08/01/2017. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely.
