xorg-x11-server before 1.19.5 was missing length validation in RENDER extension allowing malicious X client to cause X server to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code.
The bug was discovered 10/12/2017. The weakness was presented 01/24/2018 as Bug 1509217 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-12187 since 08/01/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Upgrading to version 1.19.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
