Details
A vulnerability was found in libcURL up to 7.57.0 (Network Utility Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component HTTP Header Handler. The manipulation as part of a HTTP Requests leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
libcurl 7.1 through 7.57.0 might accidentally leak authentication data to third parties. When asked to send custom headers in its HTTP requests, libcurl will send that set of headers first to the host in the initial URL but also, if asked to follow redirects and a 30X HTTP response code is returned, to the host mentioned in URL in the `Location:` response header value. Sending the same set of headers to subsequest hosts is in particular a problem for applications that pass on custom `Authorization:` headers, as this header often contains privacy sensitive information or data that could allow others to impersonate the libcurl-using client's request.
The bug was discovered 01/24/2018. The weakness was published 01/24/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at curl.haxx.se. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-1000007 since 01/22/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
