Details
A vulnerability was found in GNU binutils 2.30 (Programming Tool Software). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function bfd_get_debug_link_info_1 of the file opncls.c of the component libbfd. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The bfd_get_debug_link_info_1 function in opncls.c in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library (aka libbfd), as distributed in GNU Binutils 2.30, has an unchecked strnlen operation. Remote attackers could leverage this vulnerability to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) via a crafted ELF file.
