An integer overflow in xmlmemory.c in libxml2 before 2.9.5, as used in Google Chrome prior to 62.0.3202.62 and other products, allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted XML file.

The bug was discovered 10/17/2017. The weakness was disclosed 02/07/2018 by Kushal Arvind Shah (xisigr) with Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs (Website). The advisory is available at bugzilla.gnome.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-5130 since 01/02/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
