Details
A vulnerability has been found in Google Chrome (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component Skia. The manipulation as part of a HTML Page leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An integer overflow in Skia in Google Chrome prior to 62.0.3202.62 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page, aka an out-of-bounds write.
The bug was discovered 10/17/2017. The weakness was presented 02/07/2018 by Kushal Arvind Shah (xisigr) with Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-5131 since 01/02/2017. The attack can be launched remotely.
