A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in FFmpeg 2.0.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected is the function add_bytes_l2_c of the file libavcodec/pngdsp.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 08/30/2013 by Piotr Bandurski (ami_stuff) as avcodec/pngdsp: fix (un)signed type in end comparission as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.videolan.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. The exploitability is told to be difficult. Upgrading to version 2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at git.videolan.org. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
