A denial of service flaw was found in dovecot before 2.2.34. An attacker able to generate random SNI server names could exploit TLS SNI configuration lookups, leading to excessive memory usage and the process to restart.

The bug was discovered 02/28/2018. The weakness was disclosed 03/02/2018 by Aleksandar Nikolic with Cisco Talos (Website). The advisory is shared for download at dovecot.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-15130 since 10/08/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
