A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in GNU binutils 2.30 (Programming Tool Software). Affected is the function display_debug_ranges of the file dwarf.c. The manipulation as part of a ELF File leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. The display_debug_ranges function in dwarf.c in GNU Binutils 2.30 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (integer overflow and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted ELF file, as demonstrated by objdump.
