Mozilla Firefox before 26.0 and SeaMonkey before 2.23 on Linux allow user-assisted remote attackers to read clipboard data by leveraging certain middle-click paste operations.
The weakness was disclosed 07/16/2013 by Vincent Lefevre as MFSA2013-112 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-6672 since 11/05/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71365 (Fedora 19 : firefox-26.0-2.fc19 / xulrunner-26.0-1.fc19 (2013-23127)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading to version 26 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 6 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
