Incorrect returning of an error code in the index.c:read_entry() function leads to a double free in libgit2 before v0.26.2, which allows an attacker to cause a denial of service via a crafted repository index file.

The bug was discovered 03/08/2018. The weakness was disclosed 03/14/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-8099 since 03/13/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
