A flaw was found in libgit2 before version 0.27.3. A missing check in git_delta_apply function in delta.c file, may lead to an out-of-bound read while reading a binary delta file. An attacker may use this flaw to cause a Denial of Service.
The bug was discovered 07/11/2018. The weakness was disclosed 07/10/2018 as Bug 1598024 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-10888 since 05/09/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Upgrading to version 0.27.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 1 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
