Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 and SP2 and 2013, and Office Web Apps 2013, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted page content, aka "SharePoint Page Content Vulnerabilities."
The weakness was disclosed 12/10/2013 as MS13-100 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Microsoft. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-5059 since 08/06/2013. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71315 (MS13-100: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint Server Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2904244)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110230 (Microsoft SharePoint Server Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS13-100)).
Applying the patch MS13-100 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
