A vulnerability was found in Exempi up to 2.4.2. It has been classified as problematic. An issue was discovered in Exempi before 2.4.3. The VPXChunk class in XMPFiles/source/FormatSupport/WEBP_Support.cpp does not ensure nonzero widths and heights, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and application exit) via a crafted .webp file.
The bug was discovered 07/25/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/15/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.freedesktop.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-18235 since 03/15/2018. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
