A vulnerability has been found in GNU binutils 2.30 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as problematic. The bfd_section_from_shdr function in elf.c in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library (aka libbfd), as distributed in GNU Binutils 2.30, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) via a large attribute section.
The bug was discovered 02/07/2018. The weakness was presented 03/22/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at sourceware.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-8945 since 03/22/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
