CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 3.12.5 (Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function kvm_lapic_sync_from_vapic/kvm_lapic_sync_to_vapic of the file kvm/lapic.c. The manipulation of the argument vapic_addr with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

The KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel through 3.12.5 allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (system crash) via a VAPIC synchronization operation involving a page-end address.

The weakness was shared 12/12/2013 by Andrew Honig as Convert vapic synchronization to _cached functions as not defined git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-6368 since 11/04/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71379 (CentOS 6 : kernel (CESA-2013:1801)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 169706 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for the Linux Kernel (SUSE-SU-2017:0437-1)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (71379), SecurityFocus (BID 64291†), OSVDB (100986†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-42584†). The entries VDB-69017, VDB-94691 and VDB-94739 are related to this item. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
