The apic_get_tmcct function in arch/x86/kvm/lapic.c in the KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel through 3.12.5 allows guest OS users to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero error and host OS crash) via crafted modifications of the TMICT value.
The weakness was presented 12/12/2013 by Andrew Honig as RHSA-2013-1802 as not defined advisory (Red Hat Security Advisory). The advisory is shared for download at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-6367 since 11/04/2013. The attack needs to approached within the local network. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72473 (RHEL 5 : kvm (RHSA-2014:0163)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
