A vulnerability was found in WordPress 3.6.0 (Content Management System). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file edit-tags.php. The manipulation of the argument _wp_http_referer/_wp_original_http_referer with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was published 12/19/2013 by MustLive as URL Redirector Abuse ?? XSS ??????????? ? WordPress as not defined advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at websecurity.com.ua. The vendor was not involved in the public release. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by MustLive in HTTP Request and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. Upgrading to version 3.6.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
