IBM WebSphere Portal 7.0.0.x before 7.0.0.2 CF26 and 8.0.0.x before 8.0.0.1 CF09 does not properly handle content-selection changes during Taxonomy component rendering, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive property information in opportunistic circumstances by leveraging an error in a Web Content Manager (WCM) context processor.

The weakness was presented 12/20/2013 as Security Bulletin: Fixes available for Security Vulnerabilities in IBM WebSphere Portal as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at www-01.ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-6316 since 10/31/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 87241 (IBM WebSphere Portal WCM Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability).

Applying the patch PM96345 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at ibm.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
