The Group creation process in the Buddypress plugin before 1.9.2 for WordPress allows remote authenticated users to gain control of arbitrary groups by leveraging a missing permissions check.

The bug was discovered 02/14/2014. The weakness was shared 04/10/2018 by Pietro Oliva as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-1889 since 02/07/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
