Details
A vulnerability was found in Spring Data Commons up to 1.13.9/2.0.4. It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the component Rest Backend Handler. The manipulation as part of a Parameter leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Spring Data Commons, versions prior to 1.13 to 1.13.10, 2.0 to 2.0.5, and older unsupported versions, contain a property binder vulnerability caused by improper neutralization of special elements. An unauthenticated remote malicious user (or attacker) can supply specially crafted request parameters against Spring Data REST backed HTTP resources or using Spring Data's projection-based request payload binding hat can lead to a remote code execution attack.
The bug was discovered 04/10/2018. The weakness was published 04/11/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at pivotal.io. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-1273 since 12/06/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1055 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as attacked. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
