A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in EMC RSA Authentication Manager up to 8.3. This affects an unknown part of the component XML File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a xml external entity reference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-611. The product processes an XML document that can contain XML entities with URIs that resolve to documents outside of the intended sphere of control, causing the product to embed incorrect documents into its output. RSA Authentication Manager Security Console, version 8.3 and earlier, contains a XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability. This could potentially allow admin users to cause a denial of service or extract server data via injecting a maliciously crafted DTD in an XML file submitted to the application.
The bug was discovered 05/04/2018. The weakness was published 05/08/2018 with SEC Consult as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-1247 since 12/06/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
