A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Nagios XI up to 5.4.12 (Log Management Software). Affected is an unknown functionality of the file admin/commandline.php. The manipulation of the argument cname as part of a Parameter leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. A SQL injection issue was discovered in Nagios XI before 5.4.13 via the admin/commandline.php cname parameter.
The bug was discovered 05/03/2018. The weakness was shared 05/16/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at seebug.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-10735 since 05/04/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation needs a authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 13 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:admin/commandline.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11992 (Nagios XI SQL Injection vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 5.4.13 eliminates this vulnerability.
