The default configuration of the SMTP component in Websense Email Security 6.1 through 7.3 enables weak SSL ciphers in the "SurfControl plc\SuperScout Email Filter\SMTP" registry key, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain sensitive information by sniffing the network and then conducting a brute-force attack against encrypted session data.
The weakness was disclosed 01/14/2014 with Oracle as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2014 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at oracle.com. This vulnerability can be exploited via HTTPS. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-4605 since 08/23/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
