The TLS implementation in Mozilla Network Security Services (NSS) does not properly consider timing side-channel attacks on a noncompliant MAC check operation during the processing of malformed CBC padding, which allows remote attackers to conduct distinguishing attacks and plaintext-recovery attacks via statistical analysis of timing data for crafted packets, a related issue to CVE-2013-0169.
The weakness was published 01/14/2014 with Oracle as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2014 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at oracle.com. This vulnerability can be exploited via HTTPS. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-1620 since 02/05/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
