Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), when used with Exchange, allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary URLs for login via a link to the owalogon.asp application.
The bug was discovered 01/20/2005. The weakness was presented 01/25/2005 by Donnie Werner with exploitlabs.com (Website). The advisory is shared for download at exploitlabs.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-0420 since 02/15/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90500 (Microsoft Outlook Web Access Redirection Weaknesses).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 3519.
