Details
A vulnerability was found in Bouncy Castle JCE Provider up to 1.55. It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown processing of the component DSA Key Generator. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Bouncy Castle JCE Provider version 1.55 and earlier the DSA key pair generator generates a weak private key if used with default values. If the JCA key pair generator is not explicitly initialised with DSA parameters, 1.55 and earlier generates a private value assuming a 1024 bit key size. In earlier releases this can be dealt with by explicitly passing parameters to the key pair generator.
The bug was discovered 07/07/2018. The weakness was shared 06/04/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-1000343 since 06/04/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.
