A vulnerability was found in IBM DB2 9.7/10.1/10.5/11.1 (Database Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Administration Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a untrusted search path vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-426. The product searches for critical resources using an externally-supplied search path that can point to resources that are not under the product's direct control. IBM DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows (includes DB2 Connect Server) 9.7, 10,1, 10.5 and 11.1 could allow a local user to execute arbitrary code and conduct DLL hijacking attacks. IBM X-Force ID: 140209.
The bug was discovered 07/06/2018. The weakness was presented 07/06/2018 as swg22016624 as confirmed security bulletin (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-1458 since 12/13/2017. Attacking locally is a requirement. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1574 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
