A vulnerability was found in TYPO3 6.1 (Content Management System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component CMS Configuration Module. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was disclosed 01/28/2014 as TYPO3-PSA-2014-001 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at typo3.org. The attack can be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 6.2 eliminates this vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
Since user action is always involved in this attack technique the risk can be mitigated greatly by not using the default web browser to log into a TYPO3 Backend and always log out once the work is finished. It is also suggested to not visit any other website in the same browser while being logged in.
