TYPO3 6.1 Extension Manager cross-site request forgery

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in TYPO3 6.1 (Content Management System). Affected is an unknown part of the component Extension Manager. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity.

The weakness was shared 01/28/2014 as TYPO3-PSA-2014-001 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at typo3.org. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is necessary for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 6.2 eliminates this vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:

Since user action is always involved in this attack technique the risk can be mitigated greatly by not using the default web browser to log into a TYPO3 Backend and always log out once the work is finished. It is also suggested to not visit any other website in the same browser while being logged in.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at OSVDB (102935†). The entries VDB-12202 and VDB-12203 are related to this item. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
