Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Upload/search.php in MyBB 1.6.12 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the keywords parameter in a do_search action, which is not properly handled in a forced SQL error message.
The weakness was published 02/02/2014 by Osanda Malith as MyBB 1.6.12 POST XSS 0day as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at osandamalith.wordpress.com. The public release happened without involvement of the project team. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-1840 since 02/02/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
