A vulnerability was found in unzipper npm Library up to 0.8.12 (Software Library) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Extraction. The manipulation with the input value ../ leads to a path traversal vulnerability (Zip-Slip). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. unzipper npm library before 0.8.13 is vulnerable to directory traversal, allowing attackers to write to arbitrary files via a ../ (dot dot slash) in a Zip archive entry that is mishandled during extraction. This vulnerability is also known as 'Zip-Slip'.
The bug was discovered 04/13/2018. The weakness was published 07/25/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared for download at github.com.
